The word “pholar” is a combination of “photo” and “popular” and the name of an interest-based social network service provided by a South Korean internet content service operator. Hashtags are put centre stage and help to interact through photos and videos with others who share similar interests. These hashtags inserted when content is uploaded represent more than just signs used for tagging, they symbolise a theme. Various contents of the same theme are collected in specific galleries. Users can follow or subscribe to those galleries, enabling them to engage in free communication and meet up. Thus, this app exceeds the limitations of similar applications and provides for an innovative new generation of social network services that create networks based on users’ interests.
