Consciously resorting to only a few subtle design elements, this photobook accompanying photographer Andreas Mühe’s retrospective at Deichtorhallen Hamburg skilfully juxtaposes Mühe’s photographic works with extracts from Florian Illies’s book “1913”. The design follows the idea of creating a visual dramaturgy that continuously surprises readers by drawing on interplay between imagery and text. As a result, both keep changing to new rhythms, providing ample leeway for novel perspectives and readings.
