Eight Bricks Habitat

Private Living Space

Design

Goldesign Studio Chih-Mo Ling, Taoyuan City, Taiwan

Red Dot
The design concept for the Eight Bricks Habitat residential house is based on the principles of Taiwanese culture whose design vocabulary is based on a rural lifestyle. The design aims to ensure that this is not forgotten and so uses modern design techniques to put nature and the quest for the original value of life centre stage. In doing so, it sets out not only to preserve cultural values, but also to translate them into the modern era.

Statement by the jury

»The unadorned, carefully considered design of the Eight Bricks Habitat residential house pulls off the balancing act between tradition and modernity in an innovative way.«
