“Everything should be as simple as possible, but not simpler“ is a quote attributed to famous physicist and Nobel-Prize winner, Albert Einstein. This is how he describes the difficulty of reducing complex concepts to their meaningful essence. The concept for the UNO capsule coffee machine achieves this reduction most impressively. The extremely slender body of only 10.6 cm width is puristic and clearly formed and makes it one of the slimmest capsule machine in the world. UNO’s architectural and rigorous lines are combined with gentle contours and, intriguingly, manage to create a harmonious entity. The concept of reducing things to their essence is carried through to the controls of the machine. There is only a single button to make obvious use even early in the morning. This button wakes the machine from its standby status, but also controls the dispensing of the coffee. UNO’s design not only gives the machine its linear character but also ensures sustainability is rigorously followed through. For example, almost all of the plastic injection moulded parts have no coating and can therefore easily be recycled. Its standby mode as well as its heating speed of only 15 seconds make UNO highly energy efficient and fast. Consistently, all the recommended 12 coffee varieties are also UTZ certified and follow the strict regulations that govern sustainable coffee production.
Statement by the jury
