Shenzhen Reading Month is a large-scale literary festival that aims to drive cultural participation and creativity across the city, itself an emerging technology hub. Over the past twenty years the event has been held each November, prompting UNESCO to name Shenzhen a global model for the promotion of reading. With its catchy imagery, the festival’s advertising campaign conveys the idea of reading as an act of charging the mind, in the same way that electronic devices need to be charged in order to work.
