f(x) – Electric Shock

f(x) is a five-member girl group whose name originates from the mathematical notation of a function with the input “x”. The cover design makes use of illustrational styling inspired by childlike imagery from fairy tales. A bear, generally a figurative presence of threat, appears on the front cover as a cute teddy bear and is thus transformed into a friendly character. The album title “Electric Shock” appears as a dangerous yet also attractive topic for the target group of adolescents. The girls wearing animal masks symbolise their capacity to cope with horror.
