When the main stage of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg underwent major renovation work, a puristically designed platform visible from all sides served as a temporary stage. The aim of this ad was to make precisely this age-old form of theatre attractive to an audience that is otherwise used to mostly visual feasts. In order to make the stage adaptable to the changing demands of plays throughout the season, a minimalist yet intelligent illustration style was designed to encapsulate the essence of each piece, pique curiosity, surprise and, ideally, encourage people to visit the theatre.
