Type Hype is a new collection of premium designer products associated with the alphabet, which were created to promote high-quality tactile and haptic design experiences especially in our digital age. In the poster series “Hauptstadt”, cutting-edge design meets nostalgia for the former East Germany: this collection brings together the 26 letters of the alphabet in the form of 26 well-known Berlin sights. A clear style and smart abstraction merge to form a self-contained graphic language that is also reduced in colour focusing exclusively on the red, black and white of the Berlin flag. In the form of an illustrated alphabet, this contemporary Berlin design also integrates and reflects the design traditions of the former German Democratic Republic and Bauhaus style, and thus demonstrates the identity-forming creativity of the city.

Begründung der Jury

To merge the central symbols and typical buildings of Berlin in an illustrated alphabet for the capital is an excellent idea. Each letter thus represents a particular Berlin sight. The graphically clear and austere appearance makes the illustrations immediately understandable and fascinate with their highly unconventional style.
