This TV and online documentary is the centrepiece of the campaign “Hear the Human Story” of the Arab news channel Al Jazeera English. The focus is on the fate of the people beyond the headlines. “We Are Fire” tells the story of an Indian woman who, after her husband had been murdered, was left destitute and helpless until she joined the activists of the Gulabi Gang. The film presents aesthetic imagery alongside an unbiased narrative. In this way, it not only tells the story of someone’s life but also shows the beauty of India with expressive images.
