The Collection of Chinese Monsters

This work is based on the reinvention of the creatures in the “Classic of Mountains and Seas”, a Chinese classic text on mythology. It started with choosing and analysing 100 potential characters from this text. The resulting insights are reflected in the black-and-white illustrations, which reveal to viewers both the personality and the story of that particular creature at a single glance. Instead of conveying the traditional images portrayed in the classic text, these graphics reinvented and injected them with new thoughts and ideas using, among other things, the five Chinese elements.
