For the permanent exhibition presenting the 250-year-old collection of the Staatliches Naturhistorisches Museum in Braunschweig, Germany, three additional exhibition spaces were developed along with a new foyer with cloakroom, lounge and museum store. Staged as a “royal” chamber of wonders, the treasury addresses the historical beginnings of natural scientific collecting. The discovery area features a large, 13-metrelong display that encourages playful interaction between the visitors and the native animal world. Inspired by 19th-century presentation practices, hundreds of anatomical specimens are shown in floor-to-ceiling racks.
